Are you successful?

Welp, I'm laid up with a broken ankle, just one more thing to hate about 2020. But, I'm not here to be negative. I'm here to let you know what's helping me this year.

Send healing vibes, please!

I've been working with a coach on the Sedona Method. This method is helping me accept how I'm feeling and release it.

The process goes something like this:
Coach: What's going on for you right now? How are you feeling?
Me: (Insert anything that's going on in the world right now.) I'm feeling helpless, sad, and angry.
Coach: What's beneath that feeling? Is it a lack of control, approval, and or security? It can be one, two, or all of those.
Me: It's all of them, but mostly I'm feeling a lack of control.
Coach: Can you welcome that feeling, that you lack control? Just for this moment.
Me: (Breathing) Yes.
Coach: Are you willing to release, just for this moment, the need for control?
Me: (Breathing) Yes.

Of course, there's more discussion, but that's the simplest version of the session.

This doesn't mean I don't take action on the problem. It means I'm taking action from a less triggered place, and I'm more effective.

2020 might not have many results or traditional "successes" for you. And if your worth and your identity is based on results, this year might be even harder than it already is. When an entire industry is shut down, there's not much room for traditional success.

Might I suggest a reframe that I hope you will carry with you beyond the Pandemic?

You are not the jobs you book. You are not the amount in your bank account.

My two favorite quotes about success that I live by are:

"Success lies in the actions you take, not the results you make." ~ Dallas Travers

"Success = small disciplines practiced daily overtime." ~ Jim Rohn

Here are some small actions I've been taking (as consistently as I can be) this year that have helped me emotionally, physically, and mentally:

1. Focus on gratitude- I journal 3 things a day that went well or moments I loved.
2. Move my body (in nature when possible)- I take walks on the lake, hikes in the woods, run, or do workout classes online with friends. Now I'll just hobble to my porch on crutches and sit outside.
3. Take action- I write letters to voters encouraging them to vote at votefwd.org  Join me?
4. Contribute- I donate money to causes and candidates I care about. I send money or care packages to people in my community who need it.
5. Connect- I spend QT with friends, neighbors, and family members (sometimes having fun, sometimes having challenging discussions about race, voting, and news biases.)
6. Rest- I read, do puzzles, nap, meditate. Pssst...We're human beings, not human doings. We're worthy even when we're not doing.
7. Create- I started a podcast! The Whole Artist with Courtney Rioux- Conversations with artists about acting, purpose, and the journey to finding wholeness.
